ASR-10 SAMPLER- USED FROM 1999-2015
I still can turn this machine on, and know every button to push by muscle memory alone. It was the first sampler I learned to use, and I fell in love with it immediately. First time I used one, it was in Grouch’s mom’s basement. Where Grouch taught me in his spare time. It was a rare machine to have back then, and still is a rare machine today. The sound quality is crazy. It’s got a big, clean sound. Which was different from the MPC, and of course the SP1200. I prefer hitting keys to pushing drum pads as well. Just always been my preference. I bought this ASR from a Guitar Center in San Leandro, maybe 15-20 mins from East Oakland, in 1999. It was used even then, and was like 800$. I was sooooo damn hype to get this. I produced everything from Gas Dream to Poltergeist, to Caravan to the Rim of the world, to No More Greener grasses, to Say G&E, etc etc on this keyboard. It came with a hard disk, which I changed over to a zip drive years ago. A majority of the beats I made, almost all actually, are on zip disk, still in my studio at home.
